Tamaris Bespoke - Why Now?

Following a long career in developing and managing private healthcare facilities, over the last two decades I have developed my skills as a textile artist. As time moved on I was confronted with the problem of how best to sell my work; as an entrepreneur/business I believed there was a gap in the market for the whole range of works of art, not just textiles, paintings and sculpture,  that could be filled by the establishment of an on-line art gallery and in 2011 the Creative Arts Gallery was launched.  Alongside this I acquired a framing and gilding workshop. Sadly, at the onset of the pandemic and the closure of all non-essential business the gallery and workshop had to be closed.

Post Pandemic

Over the last decade the retail industry in the UK has changed beyond recognition, gone are the traditional local high streets from communities of all sizes, the large department stores or small groups of luxury boutiques in a town.  There are many reasons for these changes not least a technical revolution bringing with it a move to the development of

online retailing.  In 2019 the covid pandemic which brought with it the cultural change of working from home and also accelerated the growth of online purchasing.

The luxury market is meeting these challenges and through Tamaris Bespoke I want to be involved.

Sustainability

I love fashion, wearing a unique well designed item using craftsmanship makes you feel good particularly on that special occasion.  I am a collector of contempoary art, glass, ceramics, textiles and jewellery and not just new.

However, today’s market place with its “throw away culture’ fuels some of the world’s biggest problems such as overconsumption. overproduction and climate change, creating a major world wide problem of textile waste.

.

The last decade has seen the emergence and growth online of the luxury pre-owned market. When you shop pre-owned clothes, you help to reduce textile waste;  it’s both a sustainable and ethical choice.

The Future for Tamaris Bespoke

I established Tamaris Bespoke website last year to provide an online outlet to sell my own textile art and also to sell pre-owned fashion and textile items many from my own collection.

During the pandemic I moved from a town location to the country, the property needed total refurbishment after 40 years of neglect. The search for tradesmen began and I found that moving to a small village in the Hampshire countryside brought with it the benefit that local knowledge built up over time that still exists, with many talented designers, makers and artisans still out there using their skills and craftsmanship to produce stunning unique work that we all need but how do we find them?  The idea for Tamaris Bespoke was born.

I am now looking to establish the Tamaris Bespoke Directory on the site to introduce you to a wide range of bespoke luxury products and services  some unique, some handmade but always demonstrating the quality and high standards that we can all recognise.

The Directory provides a platform for designers and makers of bespoke, luxury products and services to list their websites and give potential buyers a direct link with the sellers. I will continue to grow our online presence across a wide range of categories:-

Homes & Interior - Fashion & Accessories - Art & Crafts -Lifestyle & Sport

I look forward to the venture taking off and its ultimate success in promoting the creative and artistic talent that thrives in the UK today.
